The House of Black and White
The House of Black and White sits in the centre of Great Torrington. This historic terraced house, thought to be the oldest in the town, dates from around 1590, and have gone through a refurbishment fit for its status – from new roofing and landscaping achieved through recycling many of its original materials, to sourcing vintage products and materials to decorate its interiors. Fully refurbished, it offers a beautiful retreat available for short break lets (see booking link below). With limewash painted walls, this spacious property retains many original features with new modern fittings in keeping with today’s living standards without compromising its historic charm. On entry through the beautifully landscaped garden, you meet the large kitchen/dining room which encompasses bespoke painted navy blue framed cabinets with duel fuel range, whilst offering ample entertaining space in its dining area with a long built-in bench & chair combo dining set, along with a cosy lounging area in front of its very own wood burning fireplace. All this charm in just the cooking space. The key task with this project was to modernise an unloved listed property, keeping many of its original features and materials, to ensure its retains its prestigious status, and I think you’ll agree it passes with flying colours. Take a tour here into the outcome of the whole restoration process, and read a little about the journey in doing so from the owner-designer in our latest blog.
